San Luis Valley is a big wide alpine vale inside south-central Colorado. A vale is drained in the south per Rio Grande which rises in the San Juan Mountains to the west of the valley & flows south into New Mexico. A vale is around 122 miles (196 kilometer) hanker & astir 74 miles (119 kilometre) wide extending from either a Continental Divide on the northwest to the New Mexico state line on the south. Area of Future Mexico come too considered to exist as a share of the San Luis Valley.
A San Luis Valley is comprised of Sestet counties: Saguache, Alamosa, Rio Grande, Conejos, Costilla & Mineral. A main towns come: Alamosa, Monte Vista, Del Norte, South Fork, Creede, Saguache, Center, Fort Garl&, San Luis, Antonito, La Jara, Crestone, Villa Grove, Hooper and Mosca.
A Sangre de Cristo Range is the eastern border of the valley. Mt. Blanca is large in the midst of the range. There are many lives at between 9,000 & 10,000 feet (2,700 & 3,000 m), La Veta pass being used by Me Highway 160 & per Denver and Rio Grande Railroad (D. & R. G.) tracks. More lives utilized historically were Medano, Mosca & Sangre diamond state Cristo Lives.
Elevation rises when your family last northward in the vale to Poncha Pass, utilized okay, by America Highway 285 & historically per narrow gauge tracks of the D. & R. G..
All about 50% of the 2,000,000 acres (8,000 kilometer²) in the San Luis Valley is privately owned.
500,000 acres (2,000 kilometer²) on the borders of the vale, usually adjacent National Woods Lands come managed per Bureau of Land Management, BLM, a section of the United States Department of the Interior. This land is commonly leased to neighboring cattle farm for grazing for the nominal fee. Section of the value of the ranch is its continuing lease of BLM or National Outdoors lands.
Public lands in a mountains surrounding the San Luis Valley come usually a portion of the Rio Grande National Forest and are managed per United States Forest Service.
Agriculture in a San Luis Valley is typically concentrated in the area of the Colorado towns of Alamosa, Monte Vista and Center. Main crops include potatoes, head lettuce and beer barley. Less favorite areas by having the shorter growing year & less access to riparian right tend to become devoted to alfalfa and grazing. Wide areas, especially inside Saguache County, Colorado have a high water table or are possibly overflowing section of the month. Uncultivated land is typically covered sustaining "chico", moo brush like rabbit bush, salt brush and other woody coinage.
